Real One Player, also known as RealPlayer, is a multimedia software program developed by Real Networks that plays and streams audio and video files, and it burns CDs and DVDs as well. A basic version can be downloaded for free, or you can choose RealPlayer Plus for a fee. As with many types of software, a number of alternatives exist for those who wish to use different media players for their computers.
Windows Media
Windows Media Player comes standard in computers that use the Windows operating system and, along with the video-editing program Windows Movie Maker, performs the same duties as RealPlayer and more.
ITunes
Apple's iTunes software can be downloaded for free and allows you to purchase, import and save audio and video content; burn files to CD or DVD; and transfer them to an iPod portable media player.
SonicStage
Sony's SonicStage is a media player/management program that performs similarly to iTunes and RealPlayer. Content can be purchased through Sony's Connect store and transferred to portable media players as well.
VLC Media Player
VLC Media Player is another audio- and video-managing software program available as a free download that is compatible with most audio and video formats. It has versions available for a number of different operating systems.
JetAudio
JetAudio is another free program that burns, records and converts a variety of audio and video formats; can add audio effects to existing files; and can be used to produce Internet broadcasts.
